Andy Hyde Quality Control Manager, Diakonhjemmet Sykehus AS (The Deacon Home Hospital) in Norway

Short Bio
Andy Hyde is Director of Quality and Innovation at the Diakonhjemmet Sykehus, a medium sized hospital in Oslo, Norway. He has a Masters Degree in Computing for Commerce and Industry, that is applied computers where focus is in how to use computers to provide a benefit for the organization. Andy has worked in Applied Computing for 17 years in several different industries most recently in pharmaceutical research and now in health care. Using existing data sources for measuring quality is relatively new and presents an exciting and challenging field to innovate.
Presentation
Quality improvement through continuous feedback of performace indicators: QlikView as a MIS in a medium sized hospital
Diakonhjemmet Sykehus has several major IT based administrative systems amongst them Electronic Patient Records (EPR), Financial systems and Personnel and shift work planning. Enormous amounts of useful information is entered into these systems and each system has its own reporting function, however, it is important to see the information as an integrated whole.
Data warehousing is the traditional approach but with QlikView we have a much more dynamic Management Information System (MIS) that allows us to provide daily updates on the state of the hospital as well as produce new analysis to answer unexpected events almost instantly.
In these times with a very high demand for change and efficiency, quick response to new information requests is essential. The presentation will look at the path to the development of the MIS, how it is used and a live demo of the system as seen by our management.

Paul Harte IT Manager, Connacht Gold Co-Operative Society

Short Bio
Paul has 20 years experience working in a variety of roles including Quality, Engineering, Sales and IT within the medical, electronic and retail sectors. Champions of change within the organisation enables IT to review key business processes and make recommendations for change. Such process changes included the implementation of electronic approval processing, integrated EDI for customer and suppliers, best practice warehouse management using bar-code scanning, back door scanning and centralized administration for a multi location business. The current IT strategy is to deliver process data to the user community.
Presentation
Bringing about change in an organisation is very challenging. People have built in habits of doing things the way they were always done.
It is not easy to let go of old patterns of working. We needed to show the users the power behind the data that they were collecting for years and we needed to make the data available to them real time.
In using Qlikview we have an application that supports us with this challenge. In fact QlikView has initiated a cultural change within our organisation.
Before QlikView some of our decisions were pretty much based on intuition. Now we can base them on facts. A good example is one of our managers who knew he had made many products last year. Recently he found out through QlikView that 70% of his products was meeting 16% of his sales not to mention the storage space these were consuming. This provided the manager to consider rationalizing the product offering.
QlikView has drastically improved our way of looking at our own business, and our ability to make better decisions and delivering better performance in many business processes in a matter of days.
